Hey! For this project, we had to choose a 3-2-1 (3 pages, 2 characters, 1 location) scene from an unpopular movie, direct it, and make the performances reel-worthy. I chose Ghost World. Because I had already worked with them and loved their performances, I asked Ava Wooley (right) and Kitana Perez (left) to act for me again. As with the previous assignment, we had to do vision work. By the end of the scene, Rebecca (Kitana) makes Enid (Ava) call Seymour to prank him into going on a date. Because of this burlesque nature, my theme was "Men are women’s entertainment." The conflict was that Enid and Rebecca were bored, trying to find something to do. The genre was drama and comedy. The target audience is teens. The tone is fun and sarcastic. This time, I got an almost complete film crew of my classmates and friends to help me out with this. Hey! For this project, we were assigned a dialogue-only scene we had to interpret and direct. I got "Tell Him," which I made about a sister (Kitana Perez, to the right) showing her friend (Ava Wooley, to the left) the sister's brother's adoption papers. They discuss whether the sister should tell her brother or not. We had to do "vision work", which included establishing the theme, story, genre, and tone. This would help us with any directing decisions we had to take before, during, and after the shoot. My theme was "Honesty is scary, but it goes above all else." The genre was drama, and the target audience was people who have siblings and people with big secrets. The tone was urgent and anxious. The feedback I got from my professor was that the acting was believable. An important aspect of acting is not only saying your dialogue and doing your blocking but also reacting naturally to what your peers are saying. Though, he argued that they didn't seem like friends. Co-workers or classmates, maybe. He said that the relationship could be reinforced by having the friend comfortingly touch the sister's hand or arm, for example. After rewatching the video after a couple of weeks, I see what he means. It looks like the sister is reaching out for help to someone with whom she may not necessarily be close. For FILM232, Camera and Lighting, we had to adapt a script by Al Michalski using our own ideas. The original script was about a couple breaking up after watching a movie. My adaptation is about beverages breaking up after watching *THE* ad. Hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!
